劉又瑀 Yu Yu Liu

Cello

臺灣大提琴家劉瑜瑜目前旅居加拿大卑詩省溫哥華,是活躍於當地的重要演奏家之一。她為 溫哥華歌劇院(Vancouver Opera) 最新任命的大提琴團員,並於 2024–2025 樂季擔任 維多利亞交響樂團(Victoria Symphony) 大提琴組成員。在此之前,她曾出任 喬治王子城交響樂團(Prince George Symphony Orchestra) 的大提琴首席,以及 甘露市交響樂團(Kamloops Symphony Orchestra) 的大提琴組團員。


劉瑜瑜亦是活躍的室內樂演奏者,曾與 Vancouver Cantata Singers、Allegra Chamber Orchestra 等團體合作。除了演奏生涯,她亦投入教育工作,在溫哥華建立個人大提琴工作室,培育年輕音樂家。她曾於 維多利亞音樂院(Victoria Conservatory of Music) 主講大師班,並於 2022 年擔任 溫哥華音樂學院(Vancouver Academy of Music) 評審。此外,她也曾於 Surrey Youth Orchestra 與 Orchestra North 夏季音樂營 擔任室內樂指導。


在專業演出方面,她經常與加拿大頂尖樂團合作,包括 溫哥華交響樂團(Vancouver Symphony Orchestra)、溫哥華島交響樂團(Vancouver Island Symphony) 與 溫哥華大都會管弦樂團(Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra) 等。


劉瑜瑜於 茱莉亞音樂院(The Juilliard School) 取得大提琴演奏學士與碩士學位,師事 Astrid Schween 與 Fred Sherry;其後於 曼哈頓音樂院(Manhattan School of Music) 取得管弦樂演奏碩士學位,受教於紐約愛樂大提琴家屠強(Qiang Tu)。在求學期間,她曾於多位世界級指揮家(包括 Leonard Slatkin、Semyon Bychkov、Marin Alsop、Alan Gilbert)領導下演出,舞臺涵蓋 卡內基音樂廳(Carnegie Hall)、David Geffen Hall、Alice Tully Hall 等知名場館。


她致力於當代音樂推廣,曾首演與錄製多部新作品,包括:


日本作曲家入野義朗〈Three Pieces for Cello Solo〉(1969)紐約首演


Saad Haddad 的作品〈Thulathi〉世界首演


參與影星陳法拉自導短片《Passenger》的音樂錄製,該片獲多項國際獎項


在紐約期間,劉瑜瑜深度參與當地音樂社群,自 2016 至 2022 年擔任 Ensemble 212 大提琴首席;並長期與 Bare Opera、Riverside Choral Society、New York Concerti Sinfonietta、Opera Italiana Orchestra 等團體合作。她亦受邀參與多項國際音樂節,包括 Composers Conference: Contemporary Performance Institute、Interlochen Arts Camp、Music@Menlo,以及日本 Pacific Music Festival 等。


在演奏工作以外,劉瑜瑜喜愛與家人健行,也享受與她的兩隻貓——Bilbo 與 Frodo——相處的時光。


Taiwanese cellist Yu Yu Liu is an avid cellist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. She is the newestcello section member of the Vancouver Opera. In the 2024–2025 season, she served as a member ofthe cello section with the Victoria Symphony. Prior to this appointment, she held the Principal Celloposition with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra and held a section position with the KamloopsSymphony Orchestra.

An active chamber musician, Ms. Liu has collaborated with ensembles such as the VancouverCantata Singers and Allegra Chamber Orchestra. In addition to her performance career, she is adedicated educator, maintaining a private teaching studio for young cellists in Vancouver. She haspresented masterclasses at the Victoria Conservatory of Music and served as an adjudicator for theVancouver Academy of Music in 2022. Ms. Liu has also coached chamber music for the Surrey YouthOrchestra and the Orchestra North Summer Program.

Ms. Liu performs regularly with leading Canadian ensembles, including the Vancouver SymphonyOrchestra, Vancouver Island Symphony, and Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra.

She holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from The Juilliard School, where she studied underAstrid Schween and Fred Sherry. She also earned a Master’s degree in Orchestral Performance fromthe Manhattan School of Music under the mentorship of Qiang Tu. During her studies, Ms. Liuperformed under esteemed conductors such as Leonard Slatkin, Semyon Bychkov, Marin Alsop, andAlan Gilbert, in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, David Geffen Hall, and Alice Tully Hall.

Ms. Liu has premiered and recorded numerous contemporary works, including the New Yorkpremiere of Yoshirō Irino’s Three Pieces for Cello Solo (1969), the world premiere of Saad Haddad’sThulathi, and a featured performance in actress-director Fala Chen’s award-winning short filmPassenger.

While based in New York City, Ms. Liu was deeply engaged with the local music community. Sheserved as Principal Cello of Ensemble 212 from 2016 to 2022 and performed regularly with BareOpera, Riverside Choral Society, the New York Concerti Sinfonietta, and Opera Italiana Orchestra,among others. Her festival appearances include the Composers Conference: ContemporaryPerformance Institute, Interlochen Arts Camp, Music@Menlo, and the Pacific Music Festival inJapan.

When not performing, Ms. Liu enjoys hiking with her family and spending time with her two cats,Bilbo and Frodo.
