九歲開始學習中提琴,畢業於臺灣師範大學音樂系,後赴美國印第安那大學(The Juilliard School)學士,並取得印第安那大學(Indiana University)音樂碩士。
曾師事朱玉玲、吉永謙二、高英香、羅志華、Eugene Becker(尤金.貝克),席及 Atar Arad(前紐約大都會歌劇院首席)等名師。
曾獲 1983、1986、1988 年臺北市音樂比賽第一名,並獲得全國音樂比賽第一名、兩次市立交響樂團協奏曲比賽。
在美留學期間,獲國內美樂學基金會獎,並獲教育部公費留學獎學金。
除獨奏和室內樂演出外,並擔任 Juilliard Symphony、Juilliard Orchestra、Juilliard Music Ensemble、Columbus Pro Musica 等交響樂團首席中提琴。
受邀參加的音樂節包括:美國科州 Meadowmount Music Festival、美國伊士曼 Eastman Orchestral Institute、芝加哥 Ravinia、日本 Pacific Music Festival,並曾與指揮 Felix Galimir 於紐約 New York String Orchestra卡內基音樂廳(Carnegie Hall)演出。
返國後,曾先後擔任臺北市立交響樂團、臺灣省立交響樂團中提琴首席,創立弦樂與室內樂團體,並任教於多所音樂系所。
Andrea Chang, Viola
Andrea Chang began studying the viola at the age of nine. She graduated from the Department of Music at National Taiwan Normal University, and later pursued undergraduate studies at The Juilliard School in the United States. She subsequently earned a Master of Music degree from Indiana University.
Her principal teachers include Yu-Ling Chu, Kenji Yoshinaga, Ying-Hsiang Kao, Chih-Hua Lo, Eugene Becker, and Atar Arad (former principal violist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra).
She won First Prize at the Taipei City Music Competition in 1983, 1986, and 1988, as well as First Prize at the National Music Competition. She was also a two-time winner of the City Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition.
During her studies in the United States, she received awards from domestic music foundations and was a recipient of a Ministry of Education government scholarship for overseas study.
In addition to solo and chamber music performances, she has served as principal violist of the Juilliard Symphony, Juilliard Orchestra, Juilliard Music Ensemble, and Columbus Pro Musica.
She has been invited to participate in numerous music festivals, including the Meadowmount Music Festival (Colorado), the Eastman Orchestral Institute (USA), the Ravinia Festival (Chicago), and the Pacific Music Festival (Japan). She has also performed at Carnegie Hall in New York with the New York String Orchestra under the direction of Felix Galimir.
After returning to Taiwan, she served successively as principal violist of the Taipei Symphony Orchestra and the Taiwan Provincial Symphony Orchestra. She has founded string and chamber music ensembles and has taught at several university music departments.
